“AMEC’s people are our most important asset. It is the skills of our people that our customers value; in particular, our ability to deliver complex projects safely, on time and on budget.”

Lauren J. Aho

Engineer, Power and Process, Eveleth, Minnesota, US

How long have you worked at AMEC?
2 years

Qualifications:
B.A. of Industrial Engineering

Have you had any training since joining AMEC?
Yes, I’ve had training at the University of Wisconsin.

How did you come to work in your current role at AMEC?
I started as a part-time designer, hired by Glenn Patrick. As the project I was working on progressed, I was hired as a full-time as an engineer.

What do you remember most about your first day?
All the paperwork and IT forms to fill out!

What’s the best and worst thing about working in your current location?
I work very close to home, and it’s a safe small-town atmosphere, no traffic issues, with beautiful lakes and woods in the surrounding area. The worst thing about small town life is the lack of cultural and entertainment options. Other people might think that the worst thing is the severely cold weather in Northern Minnesota, but I’m used to it.

What was your best day in the job?
I love the work we do, and the clients we work with so it’s hard to pick one. If I could create a best day, it would be going to a job site, getting the information I need, returning to the office with a good solution in mind, and starting the design work. I also love getting to the end of the project, knowing that we have provided the client with a good design, well communicated by our drawings.

What was the most challenging day in the job?
Probably my second day or so was my most challenging. I was done with all the AMEC forms, and was trying to get set up so I could start working. I get very frustrated if I can’t be productive.

Who’s your hero?
My husband; he’s kind, honest, hardworking, faithful; I could go on and on.

What motivates you?
I feel motivated when I have a clear direction for a design, and feel that we are really solving the client’s problem.

How (or for what) would you like to be remembered by colleagues?
I would like to be remembered for being competent, helpful, and easy to work with.
