SSHE Manager for Western Mining Operations, Natural Resources, British Columbia, Canada

How long have you worked at AMEC?
9 years

Qualifications: NEBOSH, CMIOSH (Chartered Member of UK Institute of Occupational Health and Safety), BA in International Relations.

Have you had any training since joining AMEC?
I have had a lot of training while I have been with AMEC. The professional training I’ve had with AMEC were NEBOSH (National Examination Board of Occupational Health and Safety) National Certificate, NEBOSH Diploma part one and two; I was also on AMEC Internal MCP (Managed Career Path) and I’m into my second year of AMEC Manager Advance Programme.

How did you come to work in your current role at AMEC?
I joined the Baku office in Azerbaijan in 2000 as SSHE Advisor. I worked on various projects with BP, ATA (AMEC / Tekfen / Azfen) and BP / AIOC and in 2007 was appointed Caspian SSHE (Safety, Security, Health and Environment) Manager. This covered SSHE function within projects and operations in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Sakhalin. I was keen to get involved further in international operations/projects and when I was offered the opportunity to work in Canada, took it. I will be based in Vancouver for the next two years and hope to make a positive contribution to the improvement and further enhancement of SSHE Performance.

What do you remember most about your first day?
I remember being met by John Neal, the Project Manager of the EDMMS project at the time. His support and assistance through that first day continued until John left the project. I also remember being overwhelmed by the amount of documentation I had to read through as I was new to the business.

What was your best day in the job?
My best day was the sailaway day of the PCWU (Production, Compression, Water Injection and Utilities) platform. I was the SSHE Manager on the project. It filled me with immense pride for the work done we did with the client. We completed the project with world class SSHE performance and ahead of schedule.

What motivates you?
Making a difference in the workplace by improving SSHE performance, helping SSHE professionals and knowing that you have contributed to their progression.

For what would you like to be remembered by colleagues?
As a person who cares about people and as a SSHE professional who can make positive contribution and change in the workplace.
