Duty holder for the Dunlin Platform
| Location: | North Sea, UK |
| Client: | Fairfield Energy Ltd |
| Scope: | Production Operations |
| Date: | 2008 – ongoing |
The facilities in the Dunlin cluster include the Dunlin A platform and subsea infrastructure for the Dunlin Southwest, Merlin and Osprey fields in the North Sea. Owners, Fairfield Energy Ltd and co-venture partner Mitsubishi, have been executing plans to enhance the production levels of this mature field, and to extend the current life by between ten and fifteen years.
Our close working relationship with AMEC continues to develop through the execution of Fairfield’s investment plans for the Dunlin platform and fields. Our excellent alignment in the face of many operational challenges bodes well for the long-term relationship and together we face the future with confidence."

Chief Operating Officer
Fairfield Energy Limited
Since takeover in 2008, production has been enhanced by drilling new wells, restarting production from wells that were not producing, and improving the uptime and reliability of the facilities and the water injection system. In this period production has doubled and water injection has reached rates not previously seen. Likewise significant progress has been made in addressing asset integrity issues and optimising maintenance.
AMEC has more than 35 years of experience of working in the North Sea. As duty holder, we manage offshore production operations, including safety, health and environmental regulatory compliance, allowing Fairfield to concentrate on its core responsibilities as licence operator. AMEC are working to deliver efficiencies which will ensure the lifting costs drive a maximum field life extension..
Prior to the handover in February 2008, the AMEC team actively worked on the transition arrangements with Fairfield and the original owner (Shell) for more than a year. We are proud to have delivered a seamless transfer of day-to-day operations in such a safe and professional manner.
AMEC is now established as a duty holder, having taken over the role from Shell on the Dunlin cluster. It was another step for AMEC as it continues our strategy of providing high-value asset support, project management and engineering services to the energy sector.
