AMEC’s contributions helped make Plant Hammond an environmental showcase for the nation’s coal-fired generating units.
A Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system was added to an existing 500MW pulverized coal fired, utility boiler. The system removes over 90 per cent of the NOx from the boiler flue gas. The SCR system was provided to Southern Company (Georgia Power) on an EPC basis by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI). AMEC was contracted to provide detail engineering and scheduling services.
The SCR system is located in a building adjacent to the boiler house with large ducts running between the two buildings. AMEC minimized interferences between ducts and structural steel through the use of a 3D modeling system.
