• Our selection process involves screening applications against a number of criteria; so if you don’t fulfil the criteria, think twice before applying, as your application is unlikely to progress.
• In addition to the essential criteria, we will be looking for other skills and interests. So be prepared to ‘sell’ yourself as best as you can. Tell us about your broader interests and successes – it may just distinguish you from the crowd.

• Read each question thoroughly and answer carefully and in full.
• Consider how best to highlight your strengths on your CV / résumé
• When describing your achievements – tell us how you’ve positively used your skills and experiences
• Give as many examples as you can. What you did at school may be interesting, but if you can demonstrate something more current, so much the better!
• Don’t sensationalize or exaggerate your achievements and experiences as you’ll be asked to define these at interview stage.
• Some of our businesses also carry out background checks before making a job offer!
• Double-check your spelling and choice of grammar before submitting your CV / résumé.

Be prepared beforehand by making sure you know the format of the interview.

• Ensure you dress appropriately so that you feel confident and comfortable, while remembering that first impressions are important
• Leave plenty of time to get to your interview and make sure you plan your journey before you start out
• Check your CV / résumé and remember what you said, and why you said it
• Do your homework! Research AMEC thoroughly, and in particular the business area to which you are applying. Try and remember anything of notable interest about the company and its activities – it could impress the interviewer!

Have your answers ready for common interview questions. Here’s a few examples:

• What are your main strengths?
• Tell us about yourself and your achievements?
• What interests you most about the role?
• Where do you expect to be in five years’ time?
• What do you know about AMEC?
• Why do you think we should consider you for the role?

Prepare questions you would like to ask at the interview. If you are genuinely interested, show it, as this is your chance to get a better understanding of the role and the organization. With a well prepared CV / résumé, the right preparation and a positive frame of mind, the interview process can be a pleasant experience. Remember, this is your chance to shine, so attend feeling confident and ready to convince us you have the right skills to join us.
