I graduated from Loughborough University with a MEng in Chemical Engineering and joined AMEC in 2007. I was excited to work in the nuclear industry after having previous nuclear experience and knew that AMEC has a focused graduate scheme for continuing career development. The opportunity to move around within the company, gain site experience and work with an experienced mentor, also attracted me to AMEC.
Since joining AMEC I have become a member of the IChemE and the BNES YGN and attend regular technical lectures, through which I am able to network with people in the industry. I am also passionate about promoting science and engineering to the next generation and volunteer for the IChemE’s 'whynotchemeng' campaign, STEMNET’s Science and Engineering Ambassadors (SEAs) programme; I am a student mentor at a school in Manchester and I am on the BNES YGN committee.
Over the last ten months, I have worked in Nuclear Clean-up and my work has focused mainly on the removal of residual waste from storage tanks and the design of cleaning equipment. I am currently carrying out a secondment in the laboratory services team at Birchwood (Warrington) and will be working on different small-scale trials.
