What our employees say
Andy Pennington, Business Development Manager, Power and Process, Nuclear
“From my early days as a graduate engineer, AMEC supported my career development through a number of on-the-job training opportunities and assignments which involved working with key suppliers. I was also fortunate enough to take an assignment for six months working offshore.” He adds: “What really underpins our expertise is our people. We’ve got a huge number of engineers and project manager involved in a number of flagship projects that AMEC has delivered. We know we’ve got a great pedigree in our workforce.”
Mike Davies, Vice President of Mining
“If I’d spent the last 20-25 years of my career doing something I really didn’t like, I’d be very, very disappointed with myself right now. I am happy to say the exact opposite is the case. My time at AMEC has been a lot of fun and I’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve had the opportunity to work with a large number of clients around the world that are now friends. I’ve worked on projects in over 40 countries and my passport usually gets full before it runs out. I have been to places as varied as Australia, Greenland, Tanzania, Brazil and Papua New Guinea. I was in the Peruvian Andes before Christmas and though I’m getting paid to go to these places do project work, there is the benefit of seeing some fantastic sights and meeting great people. I would never have those opportunities without this career.”
Isabel Celis, Engineering Training, Power and Process
“I think essentially, it comes down to the people, because we want to be able to meet or exceed our cleint's schedule and their requirements and we need the right people in-house to do the right job. I think we’re getting better every day at recruiting the right people for the job.” She adds: “In my role, every day is different. Every day has a new challenge. It’s fun to work here, everybody’s great to work with, and I’m learning a lot.”
Frances Allen, Sustainability Programme Co-ordinator, Natural Resources
“What excites me about by job is that it varies day-to-day. I deal with a whole host of different people from different countries, different cultures etc. and that’s a really exciting thing to do. Sustainability is also a fairly new concept for a lot of people, so it’s actually quite exciting in terms of getting new people involved and actually educating them as to why AMEC is interested in sustainable development and why it’s important for our business.” She adds: “I am working on a number of projects, for example one in Australia where there are huge environmental and sustainability challenges. On this project, we are using a lot of best practice from other projects. I think what makes AMEC stand out from its peers is the delivery of a really quality product without compromising on any of the core values and principles.”
