About Small Business program

AMEC’s small business program was established in order to continually seek and expand subcontracting opportunities for small businesses (SB), small disadvantaged businesses (SDB), women-owned small businesses (WOSB), historically underutilized businesses (HUB), veteran-owned small businesses (VOSB) and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses. Through the establishment of strategic partnerships with all categories of SB, AMEC is able to enhance our capabilities, serve our customers better and meet or exceed our contractual obligations.

AMEC’s procurement procedures ensure that SB are given the maximum opportunity to participate in our subcontracts. All procurement activities are conducted in accordance with the highest standard of business ethics. Project Managers and Procurement Staff regularly review the AMEC SB subcontracting plan and are held accountable for meeting or exceeding our SB goals. AMEC’s Small Business Liaison Officer (SBLO) continuously monitors and evaluates our SB performance, ensures that qualified SB are invited to compete for subcontracts and is responsible for reporting the results to management and customers.

AMEC has participated in the Department of Defense (DoD) Mentor-Protege Program since 1998. We have served as a mentor in the Air Force, Army and Navy programs and have assisted seven SDB in increasing their revenues, staff size and contract backlog. In 2002 and 2004, AMEC was awarded a Nunn-Perry award from DoD. This prestigious award honors mentor-protege teams that have excelled in the areas of quality, technical assistance, return on investment and protege development.

AMEC recently had its first Small Business Subcontracting Program Compliance Review by the US Federal Government. Because of our initiatives to assist, promote and utilize all categories of small businesses, AMEC was given the second highest rating of ‘Highly Successful’.

AMEC’s commitment to SB can be easily measured through our active participation in many SB events. AMEC regularly sponsors, attends and exhibits at local, regional and national SB trade fairs and procurement conferences.
