Business sustainability starts here… AMEC is committed to reducing its carbon footprint.

Geo-environmental

"We work on mining projects from concept to closure. We always have the client's perspective firmly in place while finding optimal solutions between site conditions, the permitting environment and what sustainable operations require."

Michael Davies, Vice President, Mining, Earth and Environmental

AMEC is a global leader in providing valued service to the mining industry.

AMEC supports this overall global effort and also directly works with mining clients to help them evaluate potential development assets, improve operations, evaluate and reduce environmental liabilities and assist in appropriate closure and reclamation planning and execution.

Our full-service geotechnical, water resources and environmental science and engineering personnel provide mining industry support for all stages of a project from the exploration permitting stage through to mine closure and beyond with care and maintenance.

Our team of engineers and scientists has become the industry leader in mine waste management, providing innovative, safe, cost-effective and environmentally sound solutions for tailings management, open pit and underground geomechanics, heap leach facilities and mine waste rock management. AMEC engineers have provided site investigation, planning, design, construction and ongoing consulting services for hundreds of tailings impoundments worldwide, including oil sands, base and precious metals, diamonds and coal projects. We have designed and continue to work on some of the world’s largest tailings dams, and are equally capable of providing viable solutions to smaller mines.

In recent years AMEC’s engineers have been leaders in the development of alternative tailings technologies for both surface and underground storage applications. These technologies include filtered (dry-stack), thickened/paste and co-disposal of tailings and waste rock. We have applied these technologies to a wide range of projects in response to the unique challenges presented by climatic, topographic, geochemical or material properties at various sites. Just as no two ore bodies are identical, we approach each mine waste management system as a unique entity with its own technically and economically optimal solution. Our mining solutions fall under these categories:
