Building science
Working with clients to improve building performance and reduce costs.
Traditionally, structural systems, exterior cladding, roofing, glazing, and environmental systems were not thought of as interactive components within a complete building system.
Building science examines these relationships during the analysis and evaluation of a building´s overall performance.
AMEC´s specialists are trained to make recommendations based on visual inspections, diagnostic testing, and monitoring. Additionally, they provide overall project evaluations and direction for a building´s components.
The goal of modern building science is to improve building performance and reduce operating costs.
Building Envelope Evaluation
The building envelope is the component that separates the controlled interior environment from variable exterior conditions. It must possess the properties of durability and resiliency while remaining affordable, practical, and aesthetically pleasing. Minor building problems left unaltered may result in costly damage to other interior or exterior components.
AMEC offers several inspection and diagnostic services to evaluate building envelope performance, identify problem areas, and provide cost-effective design and administration of remedial work where required.
Services
- Inspection and Analysis of Exterior Finish or Cladding
- Air Barrier Inspection and Analysis
- Glazing System Inspection and Evaluation
- Investigation of Moisture Penetration and Evaluation of Air Infiltration Exfiltration
- Investigation of Roof Systems, Design and Administration of Replacement of Roof Systems
- Thermographic Surveys
Building Condition Studies
As buildings and properties are purchased, sold or refinanced, a study of the property´s condition should be completed to evaluate its physical state. When building problems or areas of concern are identified at an early stage they can be addressed by maintenance programs, leasing agreements or conditions of the sale. AMEC´s trained professionals provide evaluations and recommendations to resolve deficiencies within the structural components, the building envelope (which includes walls, windows and roof systems), and associated mechanical / electrical components. If remedial work is required AMEC can provide restoration specifications and oversee construction.
Construction Monitoring
As a service to clients, AMEC offers construction monitoring of new or retrofit construction projects. From the placement of concrete to the proper installation and continuity of air barriers, qualified staff will monitor construction to evaluate conformance of material quality and workmanship to specifications and standards.
