Range residue removal services
Services for Range Sustainability
AMEC specializes in providing comprehensive environmental services for the sustainable use and management of DoD´s operational ranges. Our significant range expertise and experience includes:
- Impacts of Training on Groundwater. We have evaluated complex sole-source aquifer impacts and performed extensive fate and transport analyses of explosives and perchlorate in groundwater.
- Environmental Chemistry of Munitions. At the Massachusetts Military Reservation (MMR), we developed investigation and analytical methods for a full range of explosive constituents and perchlorate.
- Human Health and Ecological risk. AMEC has a nationally-recognized staff of risk assessment specialists and toxicologists.
- Environmental Baseline Data and Impact Analyses. We have provided natural resource, cultural resource, and NEPA/EIS services for DoD ranges nationwide, and developed the OASIS concept as a powerful public relations tool.
- Restoration. We have significant recent experience on the latest cleanup technologies for explosives and perchlorate in soil and groundwater.
In addition to EPA´s Military Munitions Rule (1997), the 1999 DoD Directive 4715.11 established policy and responsibilities for the long-term viability of DoD ranges while protecting human health and the environment. We assist ranges in meeting the challenging requirements of this DoD Directive, including:
- Assessing environmental impacts of munitions used on DoD ranges.
- Achieving near term deadlines for site-specific management plans.
- Establishing methods for recycling and disposing of range residues.
- Ensuring range management includes public participation.
Safety is our #1 Priority
Safety is integral to each and every part of our range program. We maintain a flawless safety record by using safety officers, team UXO specialists, third-party UXO quality assurance, and rigid adherence to DoD's four-step safety program for UXO.
Range Residue Removal
As an example of our range residue experience and expertise, AMEC and our protégé Bering Sea Ecotech (BSE) have provided comprehensive Range Residue Removal (R3) for operational training ranges nationwide.
Our R3 program involves three basic steps:
- 1. Identifying and segregating training munitions (UXO and inert), target debris, radiological and hazardous waste, and solid waste.
- 2. Demilitarizing (including certifying and validating) range residue.
- 3. Removing and recycling demilitarized residues, ending DoD’s responsibility or liability for the items.
Our key for safe residue removal is a well developed, verifiable inspection process, experienced staff, and strict custody and accountability of the residue through disposal or destruction.
Customer Satisfaction
Our range services program consistently exceeds customer expectations. About our work at Melrose Bombing Range in New Mexico, one customer said, “[Your] crew did an outstanding job at Melrose Bombing Range. Kudos, very professional.”
Available DoD Contracts
We have several existing DoD contracts for use at any range. We have also frequently teamed with small business and 8(a) firms on our range projects to help meet contracting goals.
