A key element to AMEC´s success is our geographic presence. With over 40 offices throughout Canada, AMEC is able to maintain a local presence to develop and preserve the close working relationships with local regulators that are essential for permitting success. Few other companies can provide this specialized local service network over such a vast geographic range. Our local offices are assisted by a support staff of recognized technical experts, available from throughout the company, who are available to solve the most complex issues facing our customers.
A specialized aspect of the permitting process is the undertaking of Environmental assessments (EAs) and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) at both the federal and provincial levels. At the federal level, AMEC has carried out EAs and EIAs pursuant to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA) at the Screening and Comprehensive Study levels of investigations for a wide range of projects, including mines, pipelines, electrical generating and transmission facilities, roads and bridges. In a variety of industrial projects, there are federal regulatory "triggers" which can involve potential impacts to fish habitat or navigable waters requiring compliance with CEAA.
At the provincial level, legislation under environmental and natural resources departments requires EAs/EIAs or permits for the construction and operation of a variety of industrial facilities such as gas plants, power plants refineries, mines and other heavy industries. Permits and EAs/EIAs are also required for infrastructure projects such as roads, powerlines, airports and railways. Special permits such as "Conservation and Reclamation Approvals" or "Environmental Management Plans" or "Emergency Response Plans" may be required in each province. With offices in every province, AMEC is well acquainted with each of the provincial regulatory regimes and their specific permit requirements, Many municipalities also require environmental assessments prior to granting leave to construct. Our specialists also assist in obtaining these permitting requirements.
