AMEC has won a Business Achievement Award from the Environmental Business Journal (EBJ) for its use of remote-sensing technology on water-related projects.  Selection of remote sensing for this year's sole Water / Wastewater Technology Merit Award marked the fourth year in a row the Earth and Environmental division has won an EBJ Business Achievement Award.

AMEC has been awarded two Consulting Engineers of Alberta (CEA) awards for two recent projects undertaken in the province. 

  • The Application of Ground Penetrating Radar for River Ice Surveys won the Award of Excellence in the Studies, Software, Special Services category 
  • In the Transportation Infrastructure category, the Whitemud Creek Arch Structure won the Award of Merit.

The US Department of Defense has selected the Air Force-sponsored team of AMEC and small-business partner CORE Engineering & Construction for a prestigious Nunn-Perry Award. The award acknowledges outstanding participants in the Department of Defense's (DoD) Mentor-Protégé (MP) program. Under the program, large, technologically advanced companies compete for DoD contracts to help small, disadvantaged businesses enhance their ability to provide needed services to the armed forces, as well as to other government and commercial customers.

AMEC's Keith Witwer took home top prize for Best Oral Paper Presentation at this year's Waste Management Symposium. The Symposium is a prestigious international radioactive waste management conference. The presentation covered AMEC’s efforts for the Demonstration Bulk Vitrification System (DBVS) project which involves the immobilization of up to 300,000 gallons of radioactive tank waste from the United States Department of Energy (DOE) Hanford Site where the waste was generated during the manufacture and processing of plutonium.

AMEC has won an Occupational Excellence Achievement Award from the United States National Safety Council (NSC), granted for AMEC's outstanding safety practices in 2007. This is AMEC’s third NSC award since becoming a member of the National Safety Council in 2007.

AMEC received two awards from the Consulting Engineers of Manitoba (CEM). AMEC won an Award of Excellence for its work on a 70-year-old industrial petroleum and fertilizer distribution facility in Gladstone, Manitoba and an Award of Merit for its work with Crosier Kilgour on the Edgewater Condominiums project in downtown Winnipeg.

A project involving AMEC on multiple levels - the Coachella Canal Lining Project - has been named Project of the Year by the San Diego Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers. The Coachella Valley Water District accepted the award at a mid-May banquet. Earlier, the project also won an Outstanding Achievement Award in Infrastructure from the Western Council of Construction Consumers.

AMEC's John H. Lombard has won the Haig-Brown Award for environmental writing from the North Pacific International Chapter of the American Fisheries Society for his book Saving Puget Sound. The award comes on the heels of John's 2007 selection as ‘Conservationist of the Year’ by the Northwest Chapter of the Society for Ecological Restoration.

A project managed by AMEC to literally wash firing-range lead from the landmark Diamond Head crater has earned the US Army's highest honor in environmental stewardship. In recognition of the exceptional project, the Secretary of the Army Environmental Award was presented on 17 April to the Hawaii Army National Guard (HIARNG) in ceremonies at the Hawaii Department of Defense.

The Marine Chemist Association Inc. (MCA) has selected AMEC's Troy Corbin from our Portland, Oregon office, as the winner of the MCA's Achievement Award. Troy's nomination in March was based on his contributions to safety and industrial hygiene in American general and marine industries. His nomination was unanimously passed by the MCA's executive Committee.

AMEC received double honors at the recent BRAVO! Luncheon in Nashville, Tennessee. AMEC Civil Engineer Lorie King was presented with the Volunteer of the Year award and Nashville's Mayor Karl Dean bestowed an Honorable Mention award to AMEC for being an Outstanding School Partner.

AMEC has won the 2008 Environmental Award from the Consulting Engineers of Newfoundland and Labrador for a unique fish passage facility designed and constructed out of bedrock for the Granite Canal Hydroelectric Project.

A project for which AMEC Geomatrix played a significant role - the seismic upgrade and rehabilitation of Pasadena City Hall - has received 15 awards for excellence over the past two years from various design, preservation and construction organizations.
