Rapid response to crisis at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam

Following a typhoon in Guam, a US territory in the Pacific Ocean, Andersen Air Force Base was badly damaged. Concrete structures were destroyed and electricity supplies were cut for more than three weeks. The base needed extensive emergency repair and fortification to strengthen it for the future.

AMEC programme-managed a series of construction projects, including the installation of new power generators and fuel tanks; and a new underground electricity distribution network to replace overhead lines and eliminate the risk of future power-cuts. We overcame the challenges of extreme climatic conditions by placing the new generators and fuel storage tanks in earthquake- and hurricane-resistant concrete structures.

The management and maintenance of US military bases at optimal performance capacity is essential in facilitating a rapid response to today’s security challenges.
