Years of war, sanctions, looting and neglect have left Iraq’s military installations severely damaged and in need of extensive upgrade and repair. AMEC was selected by the US Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence (AFCEE) to rebuild essential infrastructure and facilities for Iraq’s armed forces.

We can bring a wide range of specialist skills to each task and respond rapidly to problems.

Senior Vice President

We have undertaken an extensive programme of work to renovate buildings and rebuild power and water infrastructure to improve the functionality and security of military bases.

We utilised our programme management and project delivery skills to develop an appropriate schedule of works, recognising both the urgency and severity of the tasks to be performed. As a large company, we were able to bring a wide range of specialist skills to each task – from building demolition to power generation and airfield paving including the challenges of unexploded ordinance. We were also able to respond rapidly to emergencies, such as the construction of a base camp for 3,700 iraqrecruits during the height of the insurgency.

The result of these projects is a series of fully-functioning military bases, with modern facilities and reliable power and water supplies, at which the Iraqi Army can train local recruits effectively. Local subcontractors have also gained valuable skills, which they can now utilise in other engineering and construction projects throughout Iraq.
