AMEC formed a consortium with Tekfen, a Turkish construction company and Azfen, a joint venture with the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic, to provide fabrication of ‘topsides’ and management of ‘hook-up’ and commissioning for a major power, compression, water-injection and utilities platform.

Our safety training programmes were conducted in four languages and this helped us achieve an exceptionally high standard of safety performance, with over 7.4 million man-hours worked without a lost time incident.

We provided the leadership and project management expertise, while Tekfen and Azfen brought local production facilities, specialist technical skills and valuable links with the Azerbaijani workforce and supply chain.

To deliver the project, we upgraded Azfen’s existing fabrication yard and invested heavily in the local workforce – training around 1,400 employees in core skills. Our safety training programmes were conducted in four languages. This resulted in an exceptionally high standard of safety performance, with over 7.4 million man-hours worked without a lost time incident. Azerbaijan

By bringing together our international expertise with the local capabilities, we completed the work on schedule. As a result of our investment in the local supply chain, we have helped to develop a sustainable oil and gas services business in Azerbaijan, which in future will be able to supply engineering services and skilled resources to international oil companies throughout the region.

In 2008 BP awarded AMEC a five-year Engineering Modification Services (EMS) contract, an extension to an existing eight-year contract, in which we are providing engineering and construction management services to enhance and extend the life of all of BP’s offshore installations in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea – representing around 20 per cent of BP’s global production.
