Archaeological investigation at Spavinaw Creek

When a highway needed realignment as a result of an unsafe bridge, Delaware County of Oklahoma, and Rose and McCrary P.C., contracted AMEC archaeological crews to excavate the Spavinaw Creek site, where remains were uncovered of a 4,000 year old Native American occupation.

Due to AMEC’s intensive archaeological excavations, the bridge construction and road realignment were mitigated. AMEC archaeologists will soon begin detailed analysis of the artifacts to answer several questions on the site to offer insight into the long and intriguing history of Spavinaw Creek and the people who lived in North-eastern Oklahoma a thousand years ago.
