London, United Kingdom (26 November, 2007) - AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, has been awarded a contract from the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE plc) worth up to £13.5 million for the detailed design of facilities at the Atomic Weapons Establishment at Aldermaston in Berkshire.
The 20-month contract follows three years in which AMEC completed the initial design phase for a state-of-the art components manufacturing facility.
"We are delighted to have been awarded this extremely important contract," said Mike Saunders, President of AMEC's nuclear business, which will undertake the work.
"We have a long and successful relationship with the Atomic Weapons Establishment and we are pleased that this customer has demonstrated continued confidence in our unrivalled design and project management skills. I now look forward to us delivering a first class service to our client."
Wayne Lonsdale, Head of Delivery at AWE, said: "AWE is delighted to continue working with AMEC on this prestigious and very challenging project. This phase of the project will take us from concept design to the point where construction will commence. The facility will embrace the requirements of manufacturing and the desire to provide a pleasant working environment. In essence, the project will deliver a fit for purpose facility which will meet all the requirements of our customer, the Ministry of Defence."
