	Strategy Our aim is to protect and improve our environment wherever we can and we have committed to adopt environmental management systems to facilitate these aims. We believe that ISO 14001 gives us a disciplined framework flexible enough to provide our businesses with an effective management tool for our worldwide operations. We have integrated the elements of this management standard into our AMEC Safety, Health and Environmental Management Framework, which is implemented across all AMEC operations. To assist us in developing our approach to environmental management we benchmark our performance using the Business in the Community (BitC) Environmental Index. Our results for 2004 show a modest improvement in performance and management and our ranking has improved from 136th in 2000 to 78th in 2004.
