Challenges

Ensuring that all AMEC operations have robust environmental management systems in place will be a priority throughout 2005. Driving the AMEC Agenda 21 development, developing challenging environmental targets, sharing our successes and understanding our failures will continue to be a focus for the future. From a corporate and regional perspective, we will develop a more focused environmental framework that links to the roots of sustainable development set down in the UN Agenda 21.

We also need to look towards what we choose to do as an organisation. We have an opportunity to contribute a huge amount to global environmental quality improvement. As an organisation, we can reduce our CO2 emissions through continuing to improve our energy efficiency and many of our AMEC Agenda 21s are focusing their attention in this area. But by AMEC building renewable energy plants we can save billions of tonnes of CO2 emissions and from 2005 onwards we will be looking to improve and expand our business in these environmentally sound technologies.
