Incident rates

AMEC has adopted OSHA (the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards for the calculation of frequency rates for Lost Time Incidents and Total Recordable Cases.

The rates across AMEC's operations in 2004, compared with 2003, are as follows:

LTIFR Incidents per 200,000 hours

TRCFR Incidents per 200,000 hours

SHE Training

AMEC's SHE management framework requires all business units to identify the SHE training required at each level and function within the business and to monitor the achievement of the required training. The SHE training rate is one way of monitoring this, by calculating the number of days of SHE training received per employee across the business.

For the purposes of this indicator, "SHE training" includes all training primarily carried out for establishing SHE competence but does not include induction training and toolbox talks.

Results for 2004 are as follows:

  SHE Training Rate
Days per employee
2004 2003
UK 1.01 0.71
Continental Europe4 1.25 Not available
North America 0.77 0.61
Asia Pacific 0.30 2.11
All Amec 1.07 0.70
4Excludes AMEC SPIE Oil & Gas, Germany and Morocco, and AMEC SPIE Rail Germany, Belgium & Italy.

On average each employee received just over one day of SHE training during 2004 compared with just over two-thirds of a day in 2003.
