It is not acceptable to abuse the human rights (as laid down in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights UDHR) of an individual or group of individuals. As a company, if we fail to operate in a manner consistent with the UDHR we expose our company to significant risk such as:
- Risk of litigation (civil or international)
- Reputational risk
- Employee action (staff morale or dissatisfaction)
- Financial risk (withdrawal of funds or loans)
- Reduced client / investor support
- Negative media coverage
Managing our impact on human rights is simply part of good business and this approach is gaining international recognition, in particular with our financial stakeholders, where a number of significant partners have voluntarily signed up to the Equator Principles, a move that AMEC supports.
