Design services
During the early stages of a project, we can help our customers assess the best approach to a range of design issues, such as compliance with environmental regulations, planning permissions or stakeholder identification and management. In this way, we can help identify potential obstacles to a project. Our long experience in the field, in particular through our environmental consulting business, means we can cover the full range of issues likely to affect a customer, whatever their industry. Working with customers as a team in the design stage, we can help them avoid difficulties later on. For example, we are helping leading diamond company De Beers plan a series of diamond mines in Northern Canada. We take responsibility for assessing the impact of these mines on the local community and the environment, down to the detail of preventing adverse effects on animal habitats and migration patterns or water systems. We can encourage early response to local opposition or legal and regulatory impediments. When it comes to more detailed designs, we can ensure that the materials, processes and systems used are sustainable, minimising damage and optimising the benefits for human health and the environment. We can consider issues like energy efficiency, waste management and community sensitivities from the very outset – and this is usually more effective than addressing them later, or when problems arise. |
