Overall the performance during 2006 has been disappointing, as AMEC failed to achieve its corporate environmental targets. The business was prosecuted and fined in January for a pollution incident. Fortunately, no lasting ecological damage was caused but it does mean that AMEC must improve its ability to manage environmental risks.
There is a falling percentage of employees covered by an environmental management system and AMEC must take steps to address this.
It must be stressed that there are improvements in many of AMEC's business units and a great deal of best practice is being generated, but this is overshadowed by a poor incident performance.
Many AMEC businesses are looking to provide clients with more environmentally sustainable products and services. It is therefore vital that we manage our ability to provide these services in an environmentally sound manner.
