Sustainability performance report 2007

Environment

AMEC has an integrated approach to safety, health and environmental management based on internationally recognised standards ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001. Many of the elements of successful environmental management systems are mirrored in safety management systems and therefore it is efficient and effective to integrate these two systems.

The situation with environmental management system has improved with coverage of AMEC's ISO 14001 compliance up by 2 per cent. However, there is further work to do to ensure that all the company is covered by a robust system.

AMEC received one environmental notice issued in the UK (Section 60 Noise control) during the year but this notice was issued to AMEC before work began, not as a result of nuisance. In all our internal management system identified some 77 environmental incidents which is and increase of 9 incidents when compared to the previous year.
