AMEC Wins Award For Debris Management System

14 June 2002

CEA Press Release, Edmonton, AB, February 2, 2002 – AMEC was presented with an Award of Excellence in Natural Resources by Consulting Engineers of Alberta (CEA) for their Aurora Tailings Debris Management System project.

The Aurora Tailings Debris Management System represents a new and innovative approach to debris control in a settling basin in the oil sands industry. When a settling basin is constructed on natural topography, substantial quantities of floating organic debris can be produced. The floating debris combined with bitumen slicks present a significant challenge for decanting recycle water. The system adopted at Aurora achieves a balance between delivering a low cost, low maintenance solution to screening debris while providing a high level of assurance of uninterrupted flow of recycle water to the extraction plant.

Held at the Edmonton Fantasyland Hotel, the 2002 Showcase Awards marks the 6th year Consulting Engineers of Alberta has recognized excellence in engineering. Started in 1997 to recognize the vision, achievement and contribution of Alberta consulting firms, the awards program has done much to raise the image of the consulting engineering industry in Alberta.
