Amtrak Awards Nationwide Environmental Contract To AMEC

03 December 2002

5 November 2002 - The international engineering services firm AMEC has been selected by Amtrak for the nationwide provision of a broad range of environmental services.

Under a contract signed by the two parties, AMEC’s Earth & Environmental offices throughout the United States will be one of the key suppliers of environmental services over the next three years to the National Railroad Passenger Corp. (Amtrak). The value of the contract is estimated to be $2.5 million.

As specified by the contract, the scope of work includes federal and state environmental permitting, soil and groundwater investigations, wetlands assessments and mitigation, environmental compliance audits, waste remediation design and oversight, due diligence property reviews, design and evaluation of industrial pollution control systems, assessment of human health and ecological risks, and other environmental consulting services.

AMEC’s Earth & Environmental offices in the U.S. and Canada have provided a full range of environmental engineering services to the railroad industry for more than 20 years. Clients have included CSX Transportation, Norfolk Southern, Canadian National, Canadian Pacific Railway, and Metro North Railroad. Projects with those companies have ranged from an award-winning effort to clean up and redevelop a contaminated rail yard in Portland, Ore. to an award-winning project to bioremediate benzene-impacted groundwater near Perdido, Ala. In recent years, AMEC also has performed environmental services in Amtrak’s northeast corridor.

“We look forward to assisting Amtrak with whatever environmental needs they may have anywhere across the nation,” said Roger Jinks, President of AMEC’s Earth & Environmental Division.

AMEC operates 90 Earth & Environmental offices in North America that perform all types of environmental, geotechnical, materials and water resources engineering and consulting services. Projects have ranged from the emergency recovery and cleanup at the Pentagon and World Trade Center to bird-strike-avoidance studies at Edwards Air Force Base in California.

Internationally, AMEC is a leading provider of specialized services and engineering solutions for clients in manufacturing, commercial, infrastructure and process industries. AMEC applies knowledge, innovation and technology to generate value for clients throughout the life of their capital assets. AMEC has annual revenues of more than U.S. $6 billion and operates from offices in 36 countries worldwide. www.amec.com
