Two acquisitions bolster AMEC's environmental expertise in U.S. Pacific Northwest

10 January 2008

Seattle, Washington, United States (09 January 2008) AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, has acquired two companies in the Pacific Northwest that will expand the expertise of AMEC's Earth and Environmental business in the region.

In separate transactions, AMEC purchased Steward and Associates ("Steward") of Snohomish, Washington and Marine & Environmental Testing, Inc. ("M&ET") of Portland, Oregon.

Steward, established in 1992, is a fisheries and watershed management consulting firm. Steward offers a broad range of environmental services with specialized focus on fishery science, natural resource assessment, Endangered Species Act planning, critical area regulations, and permitting. Much of its work involves salmon and their freshwater and marine habitats.

M&ET, founded in 1987, is an industrial hygiene, occupational safety, training and regulatory compliance consulting company. Services range from indoor air quality monitoring and lead and asbestos surveys to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance audits and safety training and program development.

"Combined, these acquisitions expand the breadth of our environmental, health and safety services, particularly in the areas of aquatic sciences, habitat restoration, employee exposure monitoring and safety training," said Douglas Smith, senior vice president with AMEC's Earth & Environmental division. "They will enable us to better serve clients in the energy, oil and gas, transportation, water resources, commercial/industrial, mining, natural resources and defense sectors."
